Harmon, and I recentlyhad the privilege to take command of KiloCompany, 3 rd Battalion 7 th <strong>Marine</strong>s. On 10 July2012, Kilo Company conducted its change of commandceremony and changed hands from CaptainJames Lindler to myself. Congratulations are inorder to Captain Lindler and his family on a jobwell done, and success in his new billet in VirginiaBeach at Expeditionary Warfare Training GroupAtlantic (EWTGLANT).I recently checked into the battalion after completingExpeditionary Warfare School in Quantico,Virginia. My previous duty stations include a touras rifle platoon commander, company executiveofficer and commanding officer in 2 nd Battalion, 3 rd<strong>Marine</strong>s in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. I was also stationedas an instructor at The Basic School (TBS)in Quantico, Virginia. As the incoming Kilo CompanyCommander, you can expect the <strong>Marine</strong>s tobe well trained and taken care of to the utmost ofmy ability. It’s truly and honor to serve your husbandsand sons as their Commanding Officer, andit’s my intention to improve them as <strong>Marine</strong>s andas men.I look forward to meeting the spouses and childrenof Kilo Company at upcoming Battalion events inAugust, namely the Battalion Town Hall meetingon the 15 th of August and the Battalion Pool Partyon August 23 rd . It is my intention to create andinclusive and supportive command climatein the Company, one in whichfamily members are empowered withinformation on upcoming training anddeployment events and re-occurringfamily social events.This summer the Company looks toprepare our small unit leaders for theanticipate arrival of new members ofKilo in January and to prepare for ourupcoming deployment to the MountainWarfare Training Center (MWTC) inBridgeport, California. As a member ofKilo Company and 3 rd Battalion, 7 th <strong>Marine</strong>s,it is my intent to build somethingspecial. I am eagerto meet the family members ofour <strong>Marine</strong>s and Sailors. Thereare several upcoming FamilyReadiness events which I wouldencourage spouses and familiesto attend. Events such as theTown Hall Meeting and theBattalion Pool Party will serveto increase the overall understandingof what the Companyare doing and where we aregoing as an organization. Moreimportantly these events givethe Company leadership anopportunity to thank the familymembers for the support thatthey give to their <strong>Marine</strong>s andSailors which allows them toaccomplish their mission. We’ve returned fromdeployment, been on leave, andresumed an almost normalwork routine in preparation forour next deployment all in thethree months it’s been since Ilast had the opportunity to talkwith any of you. One thing hasabsolutely remained the same,though: your <strong>Marine</strong>s continueto do a phenomenal job.In the upcoming weeks andmonth the <strong>Marine</strong>s will all bebusy with various exercisesdesigned to develop their skillsbeyond even the high standardsthat they have already attained.Some <strong>Marine</strong>s are preparing toleave, others are preparing toarrive, and the ones that arestaying from the last deploymentwill be moving up intopositions of greater authorityand responsibility. These areexciting times filled with muchmovement and energy.Returning to the previous deployment,however, I wouldlike to ask that you be especiallywatchful of your lovedones over the next weeks andmonths. Combat stress relatedinjuries sometimes manifestlater than we might think theywould. Any indications of issuescan be relayed to thecompany chain-of-command orto the battalion family readinessofficer without any fear ofgetting your <strong>Marine</strong> in any kindof trouble. If you would like toremain anonymous or not havethe <strong>Marine</strong> know that youwere the one that contactedus, that is perfectly fine as well.The biggest concern is thehealth and wellbeing of all the<strong>Marine</strong>s in this company.
