Operation • Operator Functions •• Setting Up RoadRunner for a Programming JobOperator FunctionsLoading Device TapeDevices to be programmed with the RoadRunner are sealed in device tape ona tape reel. Device tape (carrier tape) consists of pocketed tape which holdsthe devices and cover tape. The cover tape is a self-adhesive or heat-sealedtape. The maximum size tape reel you can use on a RoadRunner is 13 inch(33 cm) diameter.The Tape-In Module simultaneously feeds the device tape into the machineand strips off the cover tape.3NOTE: Several different Tape-In Modules are available forRoadRunner. Ensure that you use the proper tape width for yourmodule, or that the module is adjusted for your tape width. If youhave an Adjustable Tape-In Module, see instructions starting onpage 3-10 for changing the tape width.All Models Except XLFTo load device tape into the RoadRunner:1. [All models except standard Siemens] Ensure that the brass button onthe spindle is rotated to the center to allow a reel to slide over it. Install areel of device tape. Rotate the brass button to lock the reel in place.Refer to Figure 3-14 throughFigure 3-16 throughout thisprocedure.[Siemens except XLF] Ensure that the device tape reel is properlyinstalled in the Feeder Cart rack.
