I reflect on thepromise of grass and moisture in the coming year. I think about all of our great friends and neighbors whohave been a big help this year as I recover from bypass surgery and I reflect on how lucky I am to have awonderful wife in Jacque and all of our kids, who have had to pick up the load and have done so.2012 was a difficult year but it is gratifying that our cattle made it through and actually did very well on whatwas available to them. In spite of the tougher conditions our cows weaned off a spectacular crop of calves andbred back 100% on a 60 day breeding season. What more could you ask for, they are workers and we sure dothank them for their efforts.New this year we sent our bulls to the Midland Bull Test in Montana to be Performance Tested and measured.The cost to bring feed into our area has reached way to high proportions and it was easier to take them to abetter place than keep them here. They had a large lot like at home to stay active and fit and were fed a roughageration to develop but not fatten. We think you will like the results and we want to say Thanks to everyone upthere for doing a great job for us.One of the great things about our industry is the diversity that is within. While some seedstock breeders try tobe all things to all people, we prefer to breed cattle that work and function for optimums not maximums. If youare looking for calving-ease and real genetic pounds then we have something to offer you. Its simple supply and demand and the ability to grow those numbersback is a very slow process for numerous reasons.The genetics in this sale are designed to be productive, efficient and trouble-free in the realworld of cattle production. All three herds practice the “art of breeding cattle” not a “paint bynumber” approach. You hang around the men behind these cattle and you will hear phrasessuch as “cow efficiency”, “cow intelligence”, “calf vigor”, fleshing ability and udder quality.These are cattle that have been selected for multiple generations to perform in all conditions– not just the good ones. Here you will find cattle that have performed on grass, minerals,water and sunshine – no supplementation.The bulls in this offering weaned on available grass and mothers milk with an average weaningweight of 650 pounds – those are real pounds not “fed-on” pounds. They are fit, athleticwith high libido to breed cows and actually gain weight during breeding – not melt down andbarely make the end of the season.
