The maternal characteristics, the high fertility, the structural soundness, the calving ease, the reliable udder quality – all these factors have been considered every year for the last 45+ years in the decision makingprocesses of sire selection, replacement heifers, and in culling females. We have always had the highest expectations for every single female. These rigid standards result in a very predictable program. We’re not breeding to develop the next milliondollar show ring animal. We don’t breed for individuality. The type of breeding decisions we makeresult in incremental improvements in the characteristics we value. It’s a slow process, but with carefuldecision making and unchanging commitment to our values, it’s very satisfying to see the progress we’vemade. For those of you who were around back in the 1970’s and buying animals at dad’s sales, my hopeis that you’re thinking, “John’s cattle are just like his dad’s – only better.”It has been very rewarding to work so closely with Ricky and Bill, each with their own set of strengthsand talents. We rely on each other in so many ways, in work and in play. A big thanks to them which Iknow I don’t say enough. We appreciate your interest in our programs, the business you’ve done with us over the years, andsharing your experience with others which has helped grow our customer base. I particularly enjoy learningabout what you value in cattle and understanding the direction you want your herd to take.If you’re new to the Cotton-Doyle-Hyland Annual Production Sale, thank you for opening the catalog.Call us. We want to meet you and learn about your program. Finally, we thank our family, neighbors and friends – you know who you are – who come to our aid duringthick and thin. Calving and weaning. Branding and vaccinating. Sorting and vacations. Pork roastsand informal gatherings.
