Year 10 EnterpriseEvery year all year 10 students are given the opportunity to create groups, developa business idea and take part in a Trade Fair held in the School Hall (this year on26 June 2013). This year 50 students turned up on the day for fun andmayhem. For many this is a continuation of activities in the businessworld undertaken at Primary and Intermediate School. For others it isthe first foray into the joys and challenges of running your own business.A variety of performance measures are used including profit, marketing, participation, innovation, meeting deadlines, and contribution to a cleanenvironment (otherwise known as cleaning up after yourself).International NewsEight students had a wonderful time enjoying the tourist delights of Rotorua last month. The coldweather did not hold them back from the Skyline and Luge, Paradise Valley (where the lions were veryimpressive), Polynesian pools, Museum experience, Waiotapu and the Tamaki Maori Village. We allreally enjoyed the chance to eat Korean and Japanese foods at the great variety of restaurants there. The absolute highlight was the Tamaki Village visit. The girls actively participated in all of the activitiesand enjoyed the hangi. The bus journeys added to the ambience of a very impressive evening whichwas an excellent tourist experience. The trip home was amidst reports of possible snow on the Taupo Road. The girlswere disappointed, but the staff were relieved, when it did not eventuate! We are all looking forward to the holidays after a busy and productive term. Music NewsThe Big SingOn Thursday 20 June our School Choir and the Ad Lucem Choir participated in the annual Big Sing ChoralFestival held at the Hawkes Bay Opera House. This is always a real climax in the choirs’ diary and enjoyed byeveryone. The choirs both performed their complete programme of three contrasting songs during the dayin the competition sessions and then in the evening all 30 participating choirs preformed one item. Ourschool choir of 100 students gave a confident and musical performance which we were very proud of. Itwas fantastic to have students assisting Mrs Purdy to lead the choir this year with Victoria Purdy conductingand Ella Sparrow playing the piano accompaniments. The Ad Lucem Choir, directed by Mrs Clifford andaccompanied by Mrs Rutgers, once again gave an excellent performance of three complex and advancedsongs. The adjudicator commented on the well blended tone and beautiful singing throughout thisperformance.Between the competition sessions and the evening concert all of our students enjoyed the social time whenwe had our pizza dinner in the Opera House Plaza.
