WOMAN S WORK EDUCATIONAL. 307In the school connected with the American Congregational Mission there are 44 pupils, and in thatof the United Brethren Mission 60 girls and severalwomen.The largest and oldest of these schools is the TrueLight Seminary of the American Presbyterian Mission.During the past year 312 students have been enrolled94 women and 218 girls. The number of professingChristians now attending is 186.At it has always been the aim in this school tomake itprimarily an evangelistic agency, many studentsare received who can only study for a limited time, buta good number remain and go on from year to yearthrough the nine years course.Two years since the need for a normal schoolseemed so imperative that, with the cordial sympathy ofthe other missions, such a department was opened, and acourse of study arranged to cover three years work wasarranged, including Scripture exegesis, ethics, Chineseliterature, history, geography, mathematics, science,pedagogy, psychology, domestic economy, physiologyand hygiene, astronomy, Romanization of Chinese,English drawing, vocal and instrumental music, andcalisthenics. Although during past years the seminaryhas sent out more than four hundred mission workers asteachers, Bible-women, and, after additional instructionelsewhere, doctors and trained nurses, no diplomas havebeen given until the present year.The first graduates numbered 19 eleven who hadfinished the normal course and eight from the women s department who had taken the course arrangedfor Bible-women. Of these graduates 14 are now teaching, two are Bible-women, two are studying medicineand one is taking the normal course. In additionto these 10 others, who have taken only a partialseven as Bible-course, have commenced work this yearwomen and three as teachers ;four are studying medicine and one is in a training school for nurses making
