The college classes at present number onlyeight students, but Bridgman Academy, with its enrollment of 90 of high school grade, and other affiliatedschools, promise to furnish more college students in thenear future. Some graduates of the academy enter theKindergarten Training School, under the same management, and one graduate took the two years normalcourse. A third course, open to academy graduates, isthe two years science course preparatory to the medical college, but until the conditions for entrance to theWoman s Medical College are raised, this special preparation is not required. In this Union Woman s Medical College (also reported under medical work), anotherbranch of the North China Educational Union, locatedat the Methodist Episcopal Mission, there are now eightstudents, in two classes, and the six years course ofstudy covers practically the same ground as that of theUnion Medical College for men. Students take part oftheir science work in connection with the regular classesat the Union Woman s College, and though the two institutions are a mile apart, they are closely linked together.They offer to young women from all parts of Chinaspecial training in all lines now most urgently needed,and since the study of Mandarin is now considered sodesirable, increasing numbers are applying for admissionfrom Central and Southern China. In the AmericanBoard compound in Peking there are now girls representing eight different missions coming from the provinces of Chilili, Shantung, Shansi, Honan, Hupeh, Ftikien,and Kwangtung. Those from the latter provinceare from a high official family and do not board in theschool.
