SUNDAY SCHOOL AND CHRISTIAN KNDKAVOR. 263Religious Tract Society of London, which Society, however, kindly permitted him to devote part of his time fora definite period of six months to the assistance of theChina Sunday School Committee and its work.At the present time this committee is negotiatingwith a Chinese Christian pastor, who has been educatedabroad, for his services as secretary to the organization. His salary will be met by the funds which are availablethrough the help of the British Sunday School Union, and some measure of usefulness is assured by the servicesof such a man.The Rev. F. Brown, F.R.G.S.,of Tientsin, was theofficial representative of the China committee at theWorld s Sunday School Convention at Washington inMay, 1910, and it was expected that the Americancommittee would take up the support of an organizingsecretary, by whom much traveling must be done, thatlocal organizations may be formed in the important centres of missionary activity. The publication of the International Lessons wasbegun by the committee with the beginning of 1909 the;lessons for the first half being prepared by Dr. MacGillivray. At present the publications include (i) a lessonquarterly of over sixty pages, (2) an illustrated leafletissued separately for each lesson, (3) a book of golden textsin large type for the entire year, and (4) reward cardshaving colored floral borders with Scripture texts. Thequarterlies and leaflets are issued in both Mandarin andWen-li, and their circulation is rapidly increasing. TheExecutive Committee has authorized local committeesat Ningpo, Foochow, Canton, Hankow, and Chengtu,to issue their own editions of the lesson notes as prepared by the Central Committee, and thus the goodresults of our efforts are being multiplied. One of the surprises of the present movement is thereadiness with which heathen children can be got toattend a Sunday School. The old fear is gone.W. H. LACY.
