THE BIBLE STUDY MOVEMENT. 257GATHERINGS.Bible institutes have been held in several provinces.The most prominent of these having been in Fukien,Chekiang, Anhwei, Kiangsu, and Shantung. The institutes were from seventeen days to a month in length.The management in each case was entirely local, as wasthe case in all the institutes, Bible classes and conferences that have been held.In the Nanking institute, which has been held thelongest, 130 were enrolled last year. As this institute istypical of many that are being held, we outline itbriefly.Eighty of these one hundred and thirty came from fiftyfivewidely separated districts ; mostly from Kiangsu,some from Anhwei. The day s program was divided asfollows :8.30 to 9.00, Devotional.9.00 to 10.00, Lecture Period.10.00 to 10.50, Study or Recess Period.10.50 to 12.00, Lecture Period.12.00 to 2.00, Noon Recess.2.00 to 2.45, Class Period.2.45 to 3.15,3.15 to 4.15,Study and Recess Period.General Lecture Hour.7.30 to 9.00, Kvening Services for the Deepeningof the vSpiritual Life.The lecture period was composed of courses oflectures of six or seven lectures each. They wereactual instruction on some book of the Bible, or on somebiblical topic.Organized Class Work. In addition to the lecturesthe students were divided, as far as possible, accordingto their ability, into primary, intermediate and advancedgrades. Lyon s "Studies in Mark" were studied bythe entire institute.General Lecture Period. There was a period whenspecial lectures were given dealing with general topicslike Sunday school work, characters in church history,the revival movement, methods of Bible study, art ofpreaching, etc.
