Some parts are verydifficult of access, some are fairly developed as missionfields, others are quite new. Near the coast theologicaltraining has been going on for over fifty years in many;places less than a decade. In some parts of the fieldthe church has become self-conscious and self-governing,while in others the foundations are but just being laid.But the whole missionary body now recognizes theimmediate importance of obtaining a carefully trainedforce of pastors and evangelists for this whole field.Many consider this as of more pressing urgency thaneven tlie doubling or trebling of our missionary force asa measure for the coordination and strengthening of thechurch, as well as for the evangelizing of the masses yetuntouched.METHODS OK TRAINING.It is difficult to obtain full reportsof those undertraining for the ministry. In many an out-of-the-waystation men are under the supervision of the missionary,as student-helpers, evangelists, preachers, assistantpastors. Some of these gradually develop into efficientand devoted pastors. In many instances the homestudies of these men are supplemented by some weeksof Bible study in institute or Bible class. In largercentres will be found a number of catechetical or Bibletraining schools, where worthy men of inferior educationare gaining a knowledge of the Bible, church history,etc., and receiving practical and homiletical training.In the case of mo.it of the missions, the graduates ofsuch training schools are not ordained at the conclusionof their course, but must pursue further studies andmeet further examinations set by their ecclesiasticalsuperiors.
