214 CHINA MISSION YEAR BOOK.and salvation to a great number of these poor diseasedsufferers. No body of patients have proved to be soopen to receive the Gospel as these hopelessly affectedlepers. Some few homes for the blind exist, but these do notcome under medical mission work.We feel strongly that these special institutionsshould be largely developed. No work shows better thelove and spirit of Christ than does the work which theydo. The want of time, means, and assistance render itimpossible, as medical missions are in China to-day, formore of these special institutions to be established.RESULTS.These are hard to put into a report, or write downwith pen and ink.We know a case recently, and this is but one ofthousands, where a patient with his friend had comesome 300 miles, from an out-of-the-way spot, to betreated. He got complete cure and relief after operation.Whilst in hospital the Gospel was brought to him andhis friend. When he returned home he took it withhim. Who can focus the result of .such work, or prophesy what it will lead to, or say where it will end ?And yet in some hundreds of centres, day by day, such voices are speaking and such influences are atwork. That the Chinese themselves realize the goodwork being done is proved by all the support receivedfrom them. When last statistics were compiled,it wasfound that, to meet current expenses of some hundredhospitals to the amount of ,25,000, ,20,000 was raisedon the. field by fees, donations, etc.We see medical and surgical results in abundance. We see social and material results on every hand.Thank God we also see much spiritual result, buteternity alone can reveal in full all that this evangelisticand philanthropic agency is doing.
