Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. 4 Chinese teachers, 14 boys boarding and 35 daypupils ;20 study English.Normal and Middle School. Basel Mission, Knchuk,80 pupils. Each school has 38 hours of work perweek. German is only taught in the middle school.South China Baptist Academy. For a score of yearsthis school has stood as the high grade in the Baptisteducational system. The aim is to constantly improveits curriculum and to raise its standard. It issupportedand controlled entirely by the native Christians. Thereare three departments: primary, 18 pupils; grammar,44 pupils; high school, 55 pupils. These grades correspond very closely with the government school of similargrade.In Canton other schools of this grade have beenopened by American Presbyterians, London Mission, andthe Church Mission. Outside of Canton such schoolswill be found at Kuchuk, Lienchow. Kachek,Tunkun, Moilim, Nyenhalgli, Shiuchom, etc.Elementary Schools. These schools have beenplanted widely over the district, but from a report ofthis work made at the Canton Educational Associationmeeting recently held it will be seen that the same conditions prevail in regard to these schools in the Kwangtungprovince that exists in Fukien, i.e., want of systempoorly supported and poorly taught schools.
