EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESSP. DahlThe Eye Bank for Sight Restoration, Inc., USAEmergency preparedness -- the plan everyone needs and hopes never to use. Are eye banks preparedto meet the needs during an emergency without having to experience a crisis first-hand? In the past12 years, The Eye-Bank for Sight Restoration has had to rely on perseverance and resourcefulness tocombat the effects of two physical disasters -- an act of terrorism in September, 2001 and SuperstormSandy in October, 2012. Both crises disrupted the services The Eye-Bank provides to donor families,surgeons and recipients in the greater New York metropolitan area. Following Superstorm Sandyin October, The Eye-Bank office was closed and without electricity, phone and Internet service fortwo and a half weeks. This presentation will offer a view of coping from remote locations duringthe aftermath of a physical disaster while maintaining standard operating procedures specifiedby regulatory authorities.
