SCIENCE TECHNICIAN AND TEACHING ASSISTANTJOB DESCRIPTIONPurpose of the PostTo enhance the school’s vision which aims to nurture each pupil on their own journey of selfdiscovery<strong>and</strong> is based upon the three key pillars of Educational Excellence, CharacterDevelopment <strong>and</strong> Spiritual Insight.To work under the direction of the Inclusion Manager in supporting the needs of all pupils in theschool to ensure they achieve their potential.To provide interventions which raise the academic achievement of the targeted pupils asindividuals or in small groups.Responsible to:Head of ScienceParticular responsibility for administration <strong>and</strong> clerical support to the school, data inputting <strong>and</strong>general office supportThe person appointed will be expected to engage in:• Working alongside the Head of Science during lessons <strong>and</strong> provide additional support toall students whilst in classroom including Special Educational Need students. ProvidingInterventions to sub-group of students within the <strong>science</strong> lessons, to provide additionalsubject support according to their differentiated levels of work.• Planning <strong>and</strong> organising equipment <strong>and</strong> resources for <strong>science</strong> experiments as well asdealing with departmental orders; also organise assessments for every topic.• Underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> implementing lesson planning for <strong>science</strong> lessons with guidance from<strong>science</strong> teacher, allowing one to gain an insight into how to plan lessons using Schemesof Work. Preparing resources <strong>and</strong> setting-up the lab for every <strong>science</strong> lesson.• Working closely with Inclusion Department - Undertaking Interventions for a number ofSpecial Educational Need students such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder, <strong>teaching</strong> them a


variety of subjects, assisting with homework <strong>and</strong> helping them improve their literacy <strong>and</strong>numeracy skills as well as developing them towards a higher level in all their subjects.


SCIENCE TECHNICIAN AND TEACHING ASSISTANTPERSON SPECIFICATION• An ability to communicate effectively, both orally <strong>and</strong> in writing• An ability to work creatively as an individual <strong>and</strong> as part of a team• Attention to detail/ability to enter data accurately;• Be able to communicate effectively both orally <strong>and</strong> in writing;• Confident <strong>and</strong> competent in using computers;• Ability to cope with periods of pressure <strong>and</strong> prioritise workload accordingly so thatdeadlines are met;• A “team player”;• Ability to work unaided;• Willing to undergo continual professional training;• Discrete <strong>and</strong> experience of h<strong>and</strong>ling confidential data;• Supportive of the school ethos <strong>and</strong> its Equal Opportunities Policy, <strong>and</strong> be aware of theimplications of working in an educational establishment;• Resourceful, positive, <strong>and</strong> enthusiastic with a good sense of humour;• Knowledge of SIMS Management Information System desirable but not essential.
