We met Ericaand Sue who were our guides for <strong>the</strong> day. Thechildren took part in activities which were focusedaround <strong>the</strong> 7 areas of learning <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> Early YearsFoundation Stage. Children took part in map reading,pirate role play, treasure hunts and balancing skills.They were once again complimented on <strong>the</strong>irimpeccable manners by <strong>the</strong> centre staff. Thank youvery much to parents for providing pirate costumesfor your children.Mrs P.PatelYear 1 Phonics ChecksAs you are aware <strong>the</strong> Year 1 children have<strong>the</strong> phonics check next week. Please makesure your child is in school on time everyday. We have been busy preparing <strong>the</strong>children for <strong>the</strong> check and have explainedthat its simply a way of finding out whatfur<strong>the</strong>r support <strong>the</strong>y need with <strong>the</strong>ir readingand so <strong>the</strong>y do not need to become anxiousor nervous. You can help your child over <strong>the</strong>weekend by recapping some of <strong>the</strong> soundsthat <strong>the</strong>y have learned. Please refer to <strong>the</strong>sheets given out in home work books foractivities, websites and a list of words topractise.Sports DayThis will now be held onFriday 28 th June 2013 1.15 pmHowever please note it is very difficult due to<strong>the</strong> wea<strong>the</strong>r and a decision to continue orpostpone can be made on <strong>the</strong> same day .School PhotographsThe proofs of <strong>the</strong> Individual photographsand group photos are now available and willbe placed in children’s book bags. If youwish to order any <strong>the</strong>n complete <strong>the</strong> detailsand return <strong>the</strong> envelope with <strong>the</strong> payment toyour class teacher by Thurs 20 th June.(Sibling photos to follow shortly).AttendanceI would like to clarify how attendance rates areaffected by lateness to school. If your childarrives after 8am <strong>the</strong>y will be marked LATE on <strong>the</strong>register. If <strong>the</strong>y arrive after 8.30 when teachershave finished registers this will be counted as anunathorised absence for <strong>the</strong> whole session.Please remember that <strong>the</strong> children missimportant learning time when <strong>the</strong>y arrive late atschool. It is also disruptive to <strong>the</strong> rest of <strong>the</strong> class.Absence due to illnessIf your child is absent <strong>from</strong> school it is yourresponsibilty to notify <strong>the</strong> school of <strong>the</strong> reason for<strong>the</strong> absence in writing. On <strong>the</strong> first day ofabsence please can you telephone school toexplain <strong>the</strong> absence. When your child returns toschool please send a letter to your child’s teacher.Transition DayOn <strong>the</strong> afternoon of Tuesday 18 th June all <strong>the</strong>children will get a chance to meet <strong>the</strong>ir newteachers for September and spend some time in<strong>the</strong>ir new classroom.
