We met Ericaand Sue who were our guides for the day. Thechildren took part in activities which were focusedaround the 7 areas of learning from the Early YearsFoundation Stage. Children took part in map reading,pirate role play, treasure hunts and balancing skills.They were once again complimented on theirimpeccable manners by the centre staff. Thank youvery much to parents for providing pirate costumesfor your children.Mrs P.PatelYear 1 Phonics ChecksAs you are aware the Year 1 children havethe phonics check next week. Please makesure your child is in school on time everyday. We have been busy preparing thechildren for the check and have explainedthat its simply a way of finding out whatfurther support they need with their readingand so they do not need to become anxiousor nervous. You can help your child over theweekend by recapping some of the soundsthat they have learned. Please refer to thesheets given out in home work books foractivities, websites and a list of words topractise.Sports DayThis will now be held onFriday 28 th June 2013 1.15 pmHowever please note it is very difficult due tothe weather and a decision to continue orpostpone can be made on the same day .School PhotographsThe proofs of the Individual photographsand group photos are now available and willbe placed in children’s book bags. If youwish to order any then complete the detailsand return the envelope with the payment toyour class teacher by Thurs 20 th June.(Sibling photos to follow shortly).AttendanceI would like to clarify how attendance rates areaffected by lateness to school. If your childarrives after 8am they will be marked LATE on theregister. If they arrive after 8.30 when teachershave finished registers this will be counted as anunathorised absence for the whole session.Please remember that the children missimportant learning time when they arrive late atschool. It is also disruptive to the rest of the class.Absence due to illnessIf your child is absent from school it is yourresponsibilty to notify the school of the reason forthe absence in writing. On the first day ofabsence please can you telephone school toexplain the absence. When your child returns toschool please send a letter to your child’s teacher.Transition DayOn the afternoon of Tuesday 18 th June all thechildren will get a chance to meet their newteachers for September and spend some time intheir new classroom.
