Surgical Sterilization of Cats and DogsThe Big Fix, a proactive program of the Cheyenne AnimalShelter, which offers low-cost spaying and neutering servicesto income-eligible families in our community. Each month, 30 plus animals are altered through the Big Fix,slowly reducing the number of unwanted animals that areturned in to the shelter each year. The program targets lowincomefamilies and individuals that do not utilize veterinaryservices because of economic barriers and offers themfinancial assistance for neutering of cats and dogs. The Cheyenne Animal Shelter features an in-house spay/neuter clinic so that all cats and dogs are neutered beforethey are adopted into their new homes, thus reducing thenumber of surplus animals in our community. However, there are still animals in the community that are not adoptedfrom the Cheyenne Animal Shelter that need spayed andneutered. The Cheyenne Animal Shelter also offers low-cost neuteringof feral cats to compassionate and concerned communitymembers. Often, cats are dumped in rural areas and areleft to fend for themselves. These cats reproduce, and theiroffspring are feral as well. People participating in our FeralCat Program become caregivers of the feral cats that live ontheir property, but they have the assurance that those feralcats will not be reproducing and adding to the unwantedkittens that suffer and die or are brought to the shelter eachsummer.MediaAll of the animals at the shelter are stars in our eyes, but afew of our animals each week are chosen to actually be inthe spotlight. Hopefully through this effort, these animals finda shining spot in someone’s loving heart.
