Chairman’s DispatchAs we anticipatereaching the end ofour nation’s currenteconomic detour, I believeit’s a good time to think aboutthe important part that Atlas—indeed our industry—plays inthe overall health of the nation.Throughout history, thedevelopment of transportationsystems has been key to thesuccess of nations and civilizations.Conversely, where suchsystems are poor or lacking, countries remain isolated anddevelopment is stifled. In theU.S., we have long recognizedthe economic necessity of infrastructure. We have madeinvesting in transportation apriority. As a result, we are allthe beneficiaries of a vibrantand reliable transportationindustry. Our pledge to “keep Americamoving” answers a vital need.Perhaps now, more than ever, society depends on the timelyand efficient movement of peopleand things. This places onus both a responsibility and aprivilege. We have been givena major role in maintaining thefreedom and prosperity that arehallmarks of the American wayof life.Regardless of when ournation reaches the recovery onramp, there is no shortage ofwork to be done. From improvingquality efforts, to trainingpeople, to upgrading andenhancing communications andoperations systems, there ismuch we can do to make ourselvesready. In this way, I amconfident we will more thanmeasure up to the responsibilitythat is ours.Mike ShafferChairman & CEO
