Republic of SoaaPia (GDRS), in recognition of this problem, and<br />
in cooperation with the United States Agency for International<br />
Development (USAID), estaSlished and funded the Comprehensive<br />
Groundwater Developneat Project [CGDP),<br />

priority areas of the 3ay, Rizan, Gzlgudud, azd Mudug Regions<br />
(Figure 2.1.1) the overall pzpose of the CGDP was to<br />
strengthen the WDAis capabiiity to co~struct, operate, and<br />
maintain rural watar sxpply systexs. As a further inducement tc<br />
accomplish Lkese .oals, the CCDP urs designed to be integrated<br />

Development project (EMGB) and the Central Rangelands<br />
Bevelopment Project (CRDP).<br />
Exploration and expfoltztion of the groundwater rgsouxces<br />
were aade possible thrcugh the provisicn by USAID of required<br />
ewiprnezt and mzterizls, and by khe requirement for the training<br />
of WEX personnel in the sse and ziaiztenance of this equipment.<br />
In an effort to insure that w zter supply facilities would be<br />
