outside the five to six kilometer radius of the w ell site.<br />

The hours of pump operation is one of the best indicators<br />

of demand. The two months presented befuw in Table 2.3.17<br />

indicate an average rate of pump aperations of approximately 20<br />

minutes per day. In pr~ctice, the pump operated on average of 4<br />

days a month, for 2 to 4 hours a day. Though these figures are<br />

low, they are considered noma1 for this period of the year,<br />

No records were available on the revenue collected at<br />

Maleel., but estimates have been made from the numbers of<br />

containers filled and nulrbers of anixals served. The actual<br />

daiiy revenue collected Sy the puzp operator during this period<br />

may be different, but is prcbably close to the figures reported<br />

in Table 2.3.18.<br />

The estimated daily yevenue from water sales at Maleel was<br />

So,Sh-1,516, Of this, So.Sh.786 represents domestic use, and<br />

so.Sh.730 represents consumption by animals, The 1,516<br />

shillings represents an average daily revenue for the peak<br />

denand season which nomally fasts between three and four<br />

months. Based on an estinated dry season use of 100 days, the<br />

revenue for the entire period would be i5L,600 Shillings.
