GMFA’s mission is to improve gay men’s health by increasing the control they have over their own lives. We believe that the best health promotion for gay men comes from gay men themselves, and so we use the knowledge and ideas of our 170 volunteers (most of them gay men) to design and plan our sexual health interventions. GMFA have received international acclaim for their Sex and Sexual Health website (www.gmfa.org.uk/sex). Annually, they deliver 1000 hours of free group work to educate gay men in safer sex, and over the last f14 years have provided courses for over 10,000 gay men. They currently provide a range of group work interventions in London and across England and Wales. Yearly they deliver three new mass media campaigns in the gay press to disseminate up to date information regarding HIV and STIs to the gay male community. In addition to this they distribute their own health magazine, FS, free to London’s gay bars and clubs to further educate gay men about relationships, their bodies, general health and STIs. GMFA also create sexual health interventions specifically for black gay men in London. The project exists to challenge the myths and prejudices that exist about and within these excluded communities and to ensure that they have access to culturally and linguistically appropriate information, care and support. Polari undertakes policy and strategy work with local and national Government departments and advises organisations on better services to and inclusion of older LGBT people. It also offers an information service (accessible by phone, email or correspondence) for older lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and trans people, to those who support them, and older peoples’ services. Polari doesn’t run services itself, and doesn’t give advice or undertake case work, but may be able to help find the advice or service that is needed. Please note Polari is a tiny organisation and the phone is not continuously staffed even during office hours.
