Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT)
The teams deal with anyone who is seriously
mentally ill or significantly vulnerable and at
significant risk. Although a referral from your GP
is preferred, an agency or carer can refer you and
you can refer yourself. When referring (by letter or
phone) please tell the team:
1 your name, address and date of birth;
2 a brief description of current difficulties
and symptoms;
3 past psychiatric history (if known);
4 any concerns about risk;
5 details of any medication;
6 your attitude towards being referred
if someone else is referring you; and
7 language spoken.

Thames, River, and Village wards. Monday to Friday

Older Person’ Community Mental Health Team
Provides help and support for people aged 65 or
over who live in Barking and Dagenham and have
mental health need.

Travelling Day Hospital
A community based rehabilitation service for people
suffering from severe and enduring mental health
problems. They provide psychosocial support and
practical support at Curzon Centre (Bastable Avenue,
Barking, Monday to Thursday), St Andrew’s Hall
(Rogers Road, Dagenham, Friday) and at clients
homes. You can be referred as an inpatient by
Community Mental Health Team.

Marshalls Park Hospital
This hospital cares for and treats adults and elderly
people from Barking and Dagenham and Havering
who have mental health problems. The service is
provided by North East London Mental Health Trust.
They provide mental health inpatient acute services,
a rehabilitation unit and the main administration
block for the Mental Health Act and medical
records services.

North East London Mental Health Trust
(NELMHT)
Provides mental health services in the London
Boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Havering,
Redbridge and Waltham Forest. They provide a range
of specialist services including hospital­based
services and services in the community. They work
closely with local authorities and voluntary
organisations.
