Benin’s growing urbanization and accessibility to contraceptives and education in the cities aremostly responsible for the decline in fertility from a peak of 7 children per woman from 1975 to1985 to 5.5 today.Benin’s leaders deserve credit for protecting their people from the poisonous methods ofdepopulation conceived by the UN and its western sponsors. They cannot however ignorepopulation growth much longer and must proactively start to reduce the total fertility rate byopen, legal and ethical means. The international community has occasionally managed to chip away at fertility in Benin byunderhanded means but there is no evidence to suggest that it has done so with the government’sknowledge and consent. The reason I assert this is because it would have been impossible toaccomplish a decline from 7 to 5.5 children per woman with a contraceptive prevalence rate aslow as Benin’s. As the data shows, Benin’s contraceptive prevalence rate has yet to reach 20%.93 | P a g e
