With a population that has doubled since 1980, a small landmass of just 26 square kilometers (the fourthsmallest in the world), and a very high population density of 476 people per square kilometer (the 26 thdensest in the world), Tuvalu has reached the limits of its natural environment and has no choice but torestrict its people to replacement level fertility. So far, population pressures have been alleviated byemigration, and currently 7 out of every 1000 Tuvaluans leave the country to settle elsewhere while manyothers work abroad or on merchant ships to support their families at home.Since Tuvalu is in danger of being submerged by rising sea levels due to climate change, sustainability ishigh on the agenda of your government and you have rightfully committed your nation through theMajuro Declaration to implement power generation of 100% renewable energy by 2020. Butdecarbonization without depopulation is meaningless, which is why I urge you to bring the currentprogram of covert depopulation out in the open so as to empower your people with knowledge and safecontraceptives to assume control over the size of their families and restrict their fertility to replacementlevel.
