Equally responsible are the following Prime Ministers: İsmet İnönü (1961-1965, and twoprevious terms), Süleyman Demirel (1965-1971, 1975-1977, 1977-1978, 1979-1980, and 1991-1993, also President from 1993-2000, see above), Bülent Ulusu (1980-1983), Turgut Özal (1983-1989, also President from 1989 to 1993, see above), Yıldırım Akbulut (1989-1991), Tansu Çiller(1993-1996), Necmettin Erbakan (1996-1997), Mesut Yılmaz (1997-1999), Bülent Ecevit (1999-2002), and Abdullah Gül (2002-2003, also President from 2007-2014, see above), and RecepTayyip Erdoğan (2003-2014).Through their combined efforts – efforts that have always been coerced and overseen by theTurkish military, which has been in control of the covert depopulation program and of thecountry until Recep Tayyip Erdoğan became Prime Minister in 2003 – they have succeeded inlowering fertility from 6 to 2 children per woman, a level reached in 2010.As elsewhere in the world so in Turkey, the contraceptive prevalence rate has been raised toconceal the use of covert methods of sterilization, which in Turkey, as in the West, are primarilybased on endocrine disruptors. The historical record shows that Turkey did have the highest abortion rate in the Middle East inthe 1990s when 20% of all pregnancies ended with an abortion.
