But its population control efforts did not really take offnationwide until 1970. What is noteworthy about this earliest effort, however, is that of the 10%downturn in births achieved by 1968 only one-third can be attributed to the program itself.Since the program of family planningintroduced in 1966 was funded and carriedout by personnel supplied by the FordFoundation and the Population Council onecan be certain that the distribution ofcontraceptives served merely as a front forcovert methods of depopulation, thus eitherchemical sterilization via fluoride tablets orinvoluntary surgical sterilizations.Tunisia’s population pyramid confirms thatthe people’s fertility has been interferedwith since the late 1960s.867 | P a g e
