Dahanayake (1959-1960), Sirimavo Bandaranaike (1960-1965, 1970 to 1977, 1994-2000) andDudley Senanayake (1965-1970).By the time Ceylon became Sri Lanka in 1972 the total fertility rate had been reduced from 5.8children per woman prior to 1958 to 4 children per woman. The presidents responsible for continuing the depopulation genocide are: William Gopallawa(1972-1978), Junius Richard Jayewardene (1978-1989), Ranasinghe Premadasa (1989-1993),Dingiri Banda Wijetunga (1993-1994), Chandrika Kumaratunga (1994-2005), and MahindaRajapaksa (2005-2015). Through their combined and sustained efforts these individuals havelowered their people’s total fertility rate from 4 to 2.1 children per woman. It is too early to tell what the current President of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena, who onlyassumed the office in January 2015, will do.From 1960 to 1990 Sri Lanka’s total fertility rate dropped from nearly 6 to just 2.5 children perwoman with virtually no contraceptives during the sixties and seventies and with less than 55%during most of the nineties. In Sri Lanka as elsewhere, contraceptives have only served to maskthe use of covert methods of depopulation.Abortion is even less of a factor in the fertility decline since it is illegal and allowed only to savea woman’s life.Sri Lanka has been rewarded for its war on fertility with a booming GDP. That data shows thatSri Lanka’s GDP began rising only after the total fertility rate had dropped to near replacementlevel in 1990 and did not explode until the country reached replacement level fertility in 2000.782 | P a g e
