Peace Without Poison

The man responsible for introducing covert methods of depopulation in Czechoslovakia in 1952is President Klement Gottwald (1948-1953). His successors stayed the course: Antonín Novotný(1957-1968), Ludvík Svoboda (1968-1975), Gustáv Husák (1975-1989) and Václav Havel(1989-1992). During their leadership the people’s fertility dropped from 3.6 to 2.1 children perwoman.Since Slovakia’s independence in 1993, the following presidents have assumed responsibility forthe genocide: Michal Kováč (1993-1998), Rudolf Schuster (1999-2004), Ivan Gašparovič (2004-2014), and incumbent Andrej Kiska (since June 2014). They have been assisted by the followingprime ministers: Vladimír Mečiar (1992-1994, 1994-1998), Mikuláš Dzurinda (1998-2006),Robert Fico (2006-2010, and incumbent since April 2012), and Iveta Radičová (2010-2012).Through their combined efforts, these individuals have lowered their people’s total fertility ratefrom 2.1 to 1.3 children per woman.Slovakia’s fertility declined fastest in the 1950s and 1960s when contraceptives were notavailable yet fertility declined nonetheless from nearly 4 to 2.5 children per woman.
