Peace Without Poison

Latvia was subjected to overt (deportations, executions, imprisonment) and covert depopulationmeasures as soon as the Soviets re-occupied the country in 1944 and forcibly incorporated it intothe Soviet Union. Latvia had a pitiful fertility rate to begin with, no more than 2.5 children perwoman, and all the Soviets needed to do is keep the Latvian people oppressed to bring the totalfertility rate below replacement level, which was accomplished by 1952.After regaining its independence in 1991, the first freely elected Prime Minister of independentLatvia, Ivars Godmanis (1991-1993, 2007-2009) began poisoning his people into sterility by thesame methods as Western Europe. His successors have all followed suit and by 1998 the countryreached a lowest low fertility of 1.1 children per woman and has remained far below replacementlevel ever since and the population has been decreasing since 1991 due to negative growth ratesand not emigration.Both Latvia’s prime ministers (from Ivars Godmanis to Laimdota Straujuma) and presidents(from Guntis Ulmanis to Andris Bērziņš) are complicit in crimes against humanity.
