Albania became a UN member state in 1955 and within five years succumbed to internationalpressure and joined the Global Depopulation Policy.Albania’s population pyramid shows that the country implemented population control measuresfrom 1960 to 1980 (under the first leader of Albania, Enver Halil Hoxha, 1941-1985) andabandoned them from 1980 to 1991 (under the second and last socialist leader of Albania, RamizAlia, 1985-1991) only to resume them again in 1992, after the fall of communism, underPresident Sali Berisha (1992-1997) and to continue them to this day by his freely-elected andpresumably democratic successors: Rexhep Meidani (1997-2002), Alfred Moisiu (2002-2007),Bamir Topi (2007-2012), and the incumbent Bujar Nishani (since July 2012). This means thatsince independence in 1944 the only Albanian leader who has protected his people from covertmethods of depopulation is the communist Ramiz Alia.Equally responsible for committing genocide are the following prime ministers: Fatos Nano(1991-1991, 1997-1998, 2000-2005), Vilson Ahmeti (1991-1992), Aleksandër Meksi (1992-1997), Pandeli Majko (1998-1999, 2002-2002), Ilir Meta (1999-2002), Sali Berisha (2005-2013),and incumbent Edi Rama (since September 2013).17 | P a g e
