Bulgaria’s population has been declining rapidly since abandoning communism due to a toxicmixture of emigration, low fertility rates caused by chronic poisoning with endocrine disruptorsand lack of economic security. The patchy history of Bulgaria’s contraceptive prevalence rate reflects the leadership’s ineptefforts to hide covert poisoning measures. Although contraceptive use has fluctuated wildly(from 86% down to 42% in a single decade) it has had no effect whatsoever on fertility, whichhas been below replacement level since 1981. Furthermore, the data is corrupted since nocountry in the world had an 80% contraceptive prevalence rate in 1975, let alone an EasternEuropean country.Abortion has played an important role in achieving low fertility but by no means a primary role. That distinction goes to fluoride poisoning. From 1960 to 2000, about half of all pregnancieswere terminated by an abortion. Since the turn of the 21 st century, the abortion rate has gonedown to 30%.Bulgaria too has been rewarded for its genocidal efforts with a growing GDP. No sooner didBulgaria reach replacement level fertility in 1979 than its GDP began to rise. The dip during the1990s marks the transition from a centrally planned to a free market economy. Interestingly, theGDP began to rise again in 1997, which is also the date Bulgaria reached its lowest fertility ever, just 1.09 children per woman. With a third of all households having only one person and three-quarters of all families withoutchildren under the age of 16, Bulgaria is a dying country in the fifth and last stage of thedemographic transition.122 | P a g e
