Peace Without Poison

To impose salt fluoridation on the Bolivian people, General Hugo Morales was made president asecond time by his American sponsors and served his second term from 1997 to 2001. In 1999,in the middle of his second term in office, he began fluoridating the country’s salt to poison hispeople into infertility just as the World Health Organization (WHO) and its smaller sister, thePan American Health Organization (PAHO), advise countries in Latin America to do becausesalt fluoridation is a far cheaper method of mass sterilization than water fluoridation.Bolivia’s total fertility rate has decreased from nearly 7 children per woman prior to 1973 to 2.8children per woman today and as the country’s fertility continues to decline its GDP continues toincrease.Since the turn of the 21 st century, Bolivia’s presidents have made great efforts to increasecontraceptive use so they can eventually shut down sterilization by fluoridated salt. Toaccomplish this, however, the contraceptive prevalence rate would have to climb to 90% and bebuttressed by clear legislation limiting family size. So far it has reached 60%.Abortion plays no role in Bolivia’s fertility decline since it is illegal and performed only in casesof rape, incest or to protect a woman’s life.Bolivia is in stage three of the demographic transition.102 | P a g e
