FUSHE ARREZ MUNICIPALITYCase StudySince the end of 2007, initiated by the new leadership of the localadministration, the Municipality of Fushë Arrëz has significantly changed theway to provide services for the waste collection and disposal which hasresulted in measurable outputs. IC/DLDP assessed the situation in thismunicipality giving a multi dimensional support to the new administration whichfunctions now as an efficient service for waste collection and disposal.The new waste system management has been implemented based on aspecific waste management plan. It was supported with the new investments tocollect the waste (containers and technological car) and the rehabilitation of thepolluted and illegal disposal into an improved green area. Since this new way ofcollection started the tax fee collection from the citizens is increasing from 0% to60% even though the tax fee has been increased with 50 LEKE. On the otherside the business community figure was 63% and has now increased to 80%;institutions increased from 42% to 100%. This is a positive indicator showingthat the waste system management is well done and appreciated by thecitizens.Additionally the rehabilitation and the greening of the polluted areas as well asdifferent other improvements have been done. This has already increased thepublic awareness and the citizens trust into the local authority.As the result of the financial support given by IC/DLDP, the waste collectionsystem was enlarged to Fushë Arrëz village and it is planned to include twomore villages in this waste service.Views from rehabilitation of ex polluted aria .11
