NFCNS Board MeetingWednesday, November 7, 2012CALL TO ORDER 9:02APPROVAL OF MINUTES. Christy Shellenbarger moved to approve minutes, StaceyFitzgerald seconded. Minutes approved unanimously.PRESIDENT’S REPORT Thank Youso Dana Palmer for all enrollment worko Staci Emerson and Julie Schmidt for working on the budgeto Everyone who came to Parent Day.o Karen Beil for helping with fundraising letterFundraising Lettero Printed and ready to mailo It has an average per family breakdown, but encourages people to give what theycan.o Will contain pledge card.Track/compile Alumni listo We need to compile a contact list to keep in touch and also to ask for playgroundgift in honor of a teacher they’ve had. Alumni are also great ambassadors forNFCNS.o We would need to look at rosters from the last five years and check to see who isstill in the neighborhood.o Some people are not appreciative of being asked back/asked for money. Givepeople an opt-out option.o Keeping in touch for 65 th /Farmer’s Marketo Can we get help/input from teachers because people have connections withteachers more than the board.o Perhaps offer alumni families a chance to nominate teacher for recognitiono Get more people to be fans on Facebook.o TabeledNancy Prosko will be helping reformat the directory and convert it to Excel.Board Holiday party. Need date and place. More details to come.DIRECTOR REPORT Conferences scheduled, most are the 19 th . Sharing Feast the Thursday before Thanksgiving in Pre-k Church offering Parents’ Nights out. No donations needed. This is a service project theirteens put together. Food drive starting after Thanksgiving break Holiday gift planned

Licensing Rep reminded us we need to have 3- and 4-year-olds screened for hearing andvision. There is a $12 fee. More about that closer to screening at end of February.Pediatrician check is insufficient.Planning on January 12 registration in conjunction with a Friendraiser/Open House topromote our program.Planning to continue enrichments, possibly opening a Spanish class. We’ll be adding a totAmazing Athletes. More details to follow.Thinking about the 2s program and whether we should redraw perameters.Alliance for Early Childhood is planning Screen Break. We may offer something like apajama night during that week. Application due November 18. We’ll check with Peggyand the ChurchHeather Burns mailed out flyers to families to help spread the word about the school.TREASURER’S REPORT The budget will not be presented early this year. Because of our numbers, we are not inneed of priority enrollment, so we’re taking this opportunity to reevaluate, work onstructures, capacities, break even points, etc. Budgeting will be in December. We were audited over the summer; we’re waiting on attorney response Third tuition installment was due Nov 1. Please pay if you haven’t.VP PERSONNEL REPORT Staff meeting next Wednesday. Last staff meeting went well.STRATEGIC PLANNING Developing a parent survey, which we plan on rolling out the week followingThanksgiving. Hopefully we’ll discuss results at January board meeting. We’re lookingfor opportunities, so in addition to “likes/happiness,” we’re assessing interest inextending days, summer camps, gap weeks, extending school year. We may possibly develop separate teachers surveys that would be individualized to eachclass. This has not been discussed with teachers yet. Maybe teachers could see survey. Exit surveyso Do we want to do an exit survey of people who withdraw? Staff would like tohear why people weren’t happy, make changes to boost enrollment.o We do have a semi-formalized process for exit interviews. There are informalconversations which are often asked to be kept private. Dana tracks why 3- and 4-day students don’t enroll in Pre-K. Usually if someone withdraws they talk withDana, the Director or a teacher. They then talk with the president.o There is concern that this type of information is not tracked over time. We doknow why different groups of people leave, but formalizing may not happen.Reasons: People move, school districts open up programs, hours, no Pre-Kmorning, plus recent drama. We can give teachers draft of survey questions.

Last year’s questions were vague and hard to track. We will better track demographics soconcerns can be better addressed.It’s appropriate for teachers to get results, and they’ll receive them when board does.RECORDING SECRETARY Cookie walk December 12-13. Online information and signup.ENROLLMENT We have enrollment on Jan 12. Board is asked to volunteer.FUNDRAISING Stella and Dot online Chico bags. There is a three day turn-around from order time. Staff has ordered manybags Pizza Company fundraiser rasied about $260 Kelly’s Kids will be in February. More details to come. Name Bubbles -- Great for labeling winter gear. Will Blue Bag information soonEQUIPMENT Please dump solid waste from diapers into toilet before putting diaper in trash.WEB REPORT Outdoor play notice will be posting online again. No teacher pages at this time, so keep an eye out for the classroom communications onFridays. Friday flashes are also available online. Click “Blue Bag.” All fundraising is online. We showcase a Photo Favorite. If you have pictures from Halloween you’d like to share,they would only go on school website, not Facebook.
