essm_copenhagen_2nd 24.11.2004 13:18 Uhr Seite 3INVITATIONDear Colleagues,The <strong>8th</strong> <strong>Congress</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>European</strong> <strong>Society</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Sexual</strong><strong>Medicine</strong> (ESSM) signifies <strong>the</strong> 10 Year Anniversary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ESSM and it is a privilege <strong>for</strong> us to invite you to Copenhagenon <strong>the</strong> 4th to 7th <strong>of</strong> December, 2005.The increase in public awareness <strong>of</strong> sexuality and <strong>the</strong> association<strong>of</strong> sexual or erectile dysfunctions to systemic or chronicdiseases emphasize <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong> this field <strong>of</strong> expertise<strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> individual patient and <strong>the</strong> health-care system <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> community.Principal aims <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>8th</strong> <strong>Congress</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ESSM are to <strong>for</strong>man exciting plat<strong>for</strong>m <strong>for</strong> multi-disciplinary achievements, t<strong>of</strong>ur<strong>the</strong>r establish <strong>the</strong> meeting as a base <strong>for</strong> training anddiscussions, and to promote collaborative projects withinand outside Europe. Authorities in various fields will presentknowledge <strong>of</strong> several topics, as well as views on current researchin sexual medicine. In <strong>the</strong> organization <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> scientificprogram, activities will be designed to create an interactiveenvironment <strong>for</strong> all participants.Abstracts <strong>for</strong> free presentations are hereby welcomed fromall scientists. We are confident that innovative contributionswill continue to define important areas <strong>of</strong> interest and educationwithin sexual medicine. Main topics have been determined,and when applicable, include aspects from basicand clinical research on male and female sexual medicine.The Region around Øresund, <strong>the</strong> narrow strait that separatesDenmark from <strong>the</strong> south <strong>of</strong> Sweden, shares since centuries acommon history. Lund and Copenhagen also have a longstandingtradition <strong>of</strong> collaborations in basic and clinical urogenitalresearch, and <strong>the</strong> <strong>8th</strong> <strong>Congress</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ESSM is arrangedwith joint honors from both sides <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Øresund Region,as well as <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r Scandinavian Countries. A mere 10 minutesby shuttle-train from Kastrup, Scandinavia’s largest airport,delegates will be housed in downtown Copenhagenwhich <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>the</strong> opportunity to experience a true Scandinavianatmosphere combined with <strong>the</strong> pulse <strong>of</strong> an international city.In December, Strøget, <strong>the</strong> famous pedestrian precinct <strong>of</strong>Copenhagen, is impressively decorated to embrace <strong>the</strong>Christmas spirit.
