Spring
for
Written by Ivy Prosper
Spring is in the air and that means new things are
blossoming and fashion is changing. No more heavy
layers or bundling up for a blast of arctic cold. It's that
time of year when we embrace the sunshine and change
of season. With so many choices you don't have to feel
confined to one specific style trend. Many of the
fashions you'll see in stores are not too far off what we've
seen over the last few years.
When it comes to the fashion industry it's always
about transformation but, sometimes the more things
change the more they stay the same. Skinny jeans and
trousers have now become a staple item in almost
everyone's wardrobe. They're easily paired with blazers,
layered t-shirts, cardigans and light knit sweaters. This
fashion item is not going anywhere. But, with the skinny
dominating over the last few years it's only natural that
fashion is now embracing the exact opposite; bigger
silhouettes.
The wide leg and flared pant has come back into
fashion. This is a warm welcome for those whose figures
are not so flattered by the skinny trend. The wide leg jean
is currently the most popular of the new trend in retail
stores. When wearing a wider pant it's best to balance it
out with a close fitting top so you don't look so
overwhelmed; especially if you're petite. With a flared
pant you can also wear a long tunic top. This trend is part
of the seventies vibe that's making a comeback. It's a
mixture of New York City glam and the hippie bohemian
flavour. There are plenty of light, flowing blouses,
feminine floral patterns, and a definite trend in fluid
peasant sleeves.
Over the last few years we have seen the military
trend in fashion year after year. This spring is no
different. Utilitarian looks like double breasted jackets
with extra hardware detailing and zippers continue to be
popular. Wrap khaki dresses, slim fitting cargo pants and
army green, muted shades of sand are all the rage. Add a
pair of very strappy, caged, or studded shoe and you've
got a leg up this season.
First Lady, Michelle Obama is often seen wearing
the classic shift dress that has become a staple for ladylike
fashion. This spring it's time for a switch. The maxidress
is everywhere. It was a big hit in major cities like
New York all last summer and now makes its way into the
mainstream. Jump start your spring wardrobe by adding
this item as a staple you can wear at work or for a night
out. Top it with a cardigan or blazer at the office and add
jewelry to up the ante for a night out.
Denim and chambray are also on trend this season. Denim button down
shirts, worn with trousers and skirts are great for casual days. Lightweight
chambray dresses and tunics are also popular items for a relaxed daytime look.
Everything is in living colour for spring. The colour of the moment is
honeysuckle. It's a mix of pink and red creating a bold rich tone that is sure to
make a statement. Colours including bright greens, corals, regatta blue, oranges
and neon shades are lifting up moods. It's very exciting to see that colours in so
many vivacious shades have brought some life into fashion. With several hues to
choose from you can't go wrong. The choice is yours. That's the wonderful part
of this new season. Anything goes.
