Approach To Electrical Apparatus6 APPROACH TO ELECTRICALAPPARATUSPRINCIPLE – Persons shall observeappropriate safe approach distance when<strong>work</strong>ing, or operating vehicles or mobileplant, on or near <strong>electrical</strong> apparatus6.1 GENERALThe safe approach distances are based on an“exclusion zone” principle. This principle definesan area around the <strong>electrical</strong> apparatus into whichno part <strong>of</strong> the person, mobile plant or object (otherthan approved insulated objects) may encroachunless in accordance with Section 9. Refer figures2 & 3.When <strong>work</strong>ing at these distances <strong>work</strong> <strong>practice</strong>sshall be established to ensure persons, mobileplant and unapproved objects do not encroach onthe safe approach distances.Unnecessary approach to <strong>electrical</strong> apparatus orunnecessary contact with parts not regarded aslive shall be avoided.Blue Book – December 2005 Page 49 <strong>of</strong> 148
