General Safety Requirements3 GENERAL SAFETYREQUIREMENTSPRINCIPLE - Consideration shall be given toprovide additional procedures covering mattersidentified relevant to providing a comprehensivesafe <strong>work</strong>ing environment.3.1 HAZARD IDENTIFICATION, RISKASSESSMENT AND CONTROLAn organisation’s safe system <strong>of</strong> <strong>work</strong> shall includeappropriate risk management processes to ensurehazards associated with <strong>work</strong> within safe approachdistances or near <strong>electrical</strong> apparatus areidentified, assessed and controlled.Prior to <strong>work</strong>ing within safe approach distances ornear any <strong>electrical</strong> apparatus, the personsconducting the <strong>work</strong> shall identify, assess andcontrol the associated hazards and risks.The hazard identification and risk assessmentprocess shall be regularly reviewed and audited toensure compliance.Page 28 <strong>of</strong> 148 Blue Book – December 2005
General Safety Requirements3.2 FIRST AIDPersons who are required to <strong>work</strong> where there is arisk <strong>of</strong> inadvertent contact with live <strong>electrical</strong>conductors shall be given appropriate first aidtraining on commencement, and thereafter subjectto annual competency assessment. Training shallcover skills in expired air resuscitation, externalcardiac compressions, shock, burns and incidentassessment and management.3.3 COMMUNICATIONSAll communications relating to the operation <strong>of</strong>, oraccess to, <strong>electrical</strong> apparatus shall be clear anddefinite. Electrical apparatus shall be referred to byname and sufficient detail to give positiveidentification.
