9NEW LIMOUSIN HERD HEALTH RULESThis British Limousin Cattle Society Sale is being held under the progressive new herd healthrules which were introduced by the BLCS at nominated premier Collective Society Salesfrom May 2011. All vendors are to be members of, and in adherence to, the terms of aCHeCS licenced Herd Health Scheme.Commenting, BLCS Chairman Peter Kirton says: “Going down this very positive health routeis another major long-term step forward for the Limousin breed. Purchasers, both pedigreeand commercial, want to buy breeding stock with a known health status. It is very much anexpectation that this new policy will build on that principle and will be widely welcomed.”The Society’s new health policy at sales has two principal elements:Part 1. From 1st May 2011, herds selling at the premier Collective Society Sales have to bemembers of, and adhering to, the terms of a CHeCS approved Herd Health Scheme. At aminimum, this must include a whole herd test for Johne’s disease.Part 2. From 1st May 2011, all animals male and female, including calves at foot, presentedat the premier Collective Society Sales be EITHER from a BVD Accredited Herd within aCHeCS approved Herd Health Scheme OR to have been BVD tested virus free. All animalsforward will be required to be BVD vaccinated prior to sale with an approved vaccine.Pregnant animals must have had testing and vaccination completed prior to service.Vaccination of calves at foot to be in accordance with CHeCS guidelines and recommendations.The new Herd Health at Sales policy is now in place at all premier BLCS Collective Sales(Stirling February & October; Carlisle February, May, October & December; Brecon May &November).BIO SECURITY RULESHARRISON & HETHERINGTON LIMITED, BORDERWAY MART, CARLISLENotice to all Visitors and TradersPlease read and observe the following:● Excessive dirty vehicles will not be allowed entry, therefore ensure vehicle is clean before arrival.● All vehicles transporting livestock will be subject to a documentation check before entry to market site.●●●All visitors and traders must ensure they wear clean clothing and footwear before entering market site.All visitors and traders using car park areas please use main entrance.Hauliers and farmers delivering livestock must disinfect their boots before and after loading or unloading.●Livestock purchased or unsold will not be allowed to move unless an authorised “pass slip” has beenissued by the main office.●No livestock will be allowed to remain on the premises after a sale.●●●Only staff, livestock hauliers, owners or their agents are permitted to load or unload livestock.Wash hands thoroughly when leaving pennage areas.Please observe our staff’s instructions at all times.Our on site Biosecurity Officer, Stan Abbot, will only be too pleased to give you assistance.
