Message From the President Dear Alumni, Family and Friends: “You must not doubt that it is a great gift of God, this grace He has given you to be entrusted with the instruction of children, to announce the Gospel to them and to bring them up in the spirit of religion.” St. John Baptist de La Salle Though these words were directed to the Christian Brothers in the writings of the Founder, they are inscribed indelibly in the hearts of the thousands of lay educators worldwide who join them in carrying on the mission of Catholic, Lasallian education. In November, we learned that our Brothers’ residential community will be closing (see page 6). While we will miss the Brothers’ daily presence on campus, we remain resolutely committed to ensuring that future generations experience the same quality Catholic, Lasallian education that has been the core of our mission in Sacramento. Because there is no change in ownership or governance of the school, day-to-day operations on campus will remain the same. Thanks to the hard work of our admissions team and our faculty and staff who make this such a wonderful place to learn and prepare for college, the future looks bright for Christian Brothers High School and the Class of 2015. In January, we hosted the high school placement exam and welcomed an impressive group of prospective students. We exceeded the average number of test takers over the last few years. CB is no longer the best kept secret in town! As we move forward, our goal is to secure sufficient tuition assistance to allow us to welcome all qualified students. It is heartbreaking to turn away students with the potential for success and desire to be here, when we cannot meet their family’s needs with the tuition assistance we have available. We need our alumni, families, and friends to give generously to support these deserving young men and women. For our current families, we continue to work hard to control costs and ensure that Catholic, Lasallian education remains affordable. In 2010, we froze tuition for the 2010-11 school year at the previous year’s rate. For 2011-12, the Board of Trustees recently approved a modest increase of 1 percent. I am grateful to our faculty and staff for their unrelenting efforts to economize without sacrificing the quality education our students deserve. As we look to the future of Christian Brothers High School, I am convinced that this Catholic, Christian community, inspired by St. John Baptist de La Salle, will continue to thrive. I believe I speak for all of us when I say that we are incredibly proud to be entrusted with carrying on the Lasallian educational mission in Sacramento and are grateful for all that the Brothers have done for us over the past 135 years.
