Va. – West Virg<strong>in</strong>ia Department of <strong>Health</strong> and Human Resources Cab<strong>in</strong>etSecretary Karen Bowl<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong>day announced West Virg<strong>in</strong>ians may apply for health <strong>in</strong>surancethrough <strong>the</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Insurance</strong> Marketplace on <strong>Health</strong>Care.gov or at any local <strong>DHHR</strong> office <strong>in</strong>West Virg<strong>in</strong>ia start<strong>in</strong>g Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 1, 2013.A few simple th<strong>in</strong>gs can <strong>protect</strong> consumers <strong>from</strong> <strong>fraud</strong>, while gett<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> coverage <strong>the</strong>y need:Be <strong>in</strong>formed about your health care choices. Visit <strong>Health</strong>Care.gov <strong>to</strong> learn <strong>the</strong> basics aboutgett<strong>in</strong>g health coverage. It’s <strong>the</strong> official Marketplace website. Compare <strong>in</strong>surance planscarefully before mak<strong>in</strong>g your decision. If you have questions, call <strong>the</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Insurance</strong>Marketplace call center at 1-800-318-2596. TTY users should call 1-855-889-4325. Look forofficial government seals, logos, or web addresses on materials you see <strong>in</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>t or onl<strong>in</strong>e.Know <strong>the</strong> Marketplace Open Enrollment dates – Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 1, 2013, through March 31, 2014. Noone can enroll you <strong>in</strong> a health plan <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Marketplace until Open Enrollment beg<strong>in</strong>s or after itends unless you have special circumstances.Protect your private health care and f<strong>in</strong>ancial <strong>in</strong>formation. No one should be ask<strong>in</strong>g foryour personal health <strong>in</strong>formation, like your health his<strong>to</strong>ry, any health conditions you have, ormedical treatments you’ve received. Don’t give it <strong>to</strong> anyone. Keep personal and accountnumbers private. government or Medicare and asks you <strong>to</strong> pay for a new “Obamacare” <strong>in</strong>surance card. Report itif you give your bank account <strong>in</strong>formation or Social Security number <strong>to</strong> someone who calls youand says <strong>the</strong>y’re <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> government.<strong>How</strong> <strong>to</strong> report suspected <strong>fraud</strong>.
