On February 19, Hafizullah Amin gave an interview to Western journalists. Theevents at Hotel Kabul were the focus of the interview. The next day, the text of theinterview was published in all Kabuli newspapers:Question from a correspondent of The Washington Post: Do you think that thedeath of the ambassador of the United States of America will have an impact on therelationship between the United States and Afghanistan?Answer: Is the purpose of your question to find out whether the death of the U.S.ambassador will impact the friendly relations of Afghanistan and the United States, andwhat can the United States do in response to his death?Well, the United States of America is a great world power. I am confident thatnobody can influence the beliefs of the leaders of that country. I do not know how thegovernment of the United States perceived these events. However, speaking on behalf ofthe government of Afghanistan, I can assure you that we, being led by the principles offriendship between our two states, undertook all possible measures to free his Excellency,Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Adolph Dubs. We participated in theceremony of shipping the coffin with his body back to his motherland. We expressed ourfeelings of friendship towards the United States in our messages and during the ceremonyof sending off the coffin.
