The <strong>Champion</strong> • Wednesday 18 December 2013Billy hopes book about Liverpoolchildhood will help charityA MELLING resident has written a bookrecounting his childhood living in Liverpoolin <strong>the</strong> 50’s and 60’s – all for charity.Author Billy Booth grew up in GordonStreet, Everton with his six bro<strong>the</strong>rs andsisters and talks of <strong>the</strong> close knit workingclass community and <strong>the</strong> crime free streetswhere <strong>the</strong>y played as children.He recounts famous local events andhighlights many landmarks and areas whichmany residents will be familiar with.All proceeds from ‘In Reach of StPolycarp’s’ will go to <strong>the</strong> League ofWelldoers – Liverpool’s oldest independentcharity that receives no funding from <strong>the</strong>government.Billy hopes to evoke memories of Liverpoolfrom years gone by and highlights <strong>the</strong> starkdifferences between times <strong>the</strong>n and now.He added: “I loved my childhood andwanted to put all my experiences andmemories down on paper. I am delighted tobe able to show off <strong>the</strong> artistictalent of youngsters in myconstituency.”Lexie in turn said she wasthrilled to have won. “I amreally proud to have won,”she said.
