The <strong>Champion</strong> • Wednesday 18 December 2013ArmedrobberstargetMcDonald’sBFrom Page 1Visit us @ www.ChampNews.com • 3Mum’s pleafor hit andrun driverto comeforwardOne of <strong>the</strong> men wanted by police.The second man wanted by police.TERRIFIED staff were threatened withknives during an an armed robbery atMcDonald’s in <strong>Bootle</strong>.Two men used <strong>the</strong> weapons to intimidatestaff as <strong>the</strong>y demanded cash from tills at <strong>the</strong>fast food restaurant on Stanley Road.No one was injured in <strong>the</strong> incident thattook place on Monday December, 9, but itleft staff members distressed by <strong>the</strong> ordeal.Detectives have now launched aninvestigation and released images of twomen who may be able to help with enquiries.Merseyside Police were called to <strong>the</strong>McDonalds restaurant at about 8.30pmfollowing a report that two offendersentered <strong>the</strong> restaurant armed with knives.The two men made off with an unknownamount of cash.The area was cordoned off to beforensically examined and enquiries areon–going in <strong>the</strong> area.Detective Inspector Andy Black said:“These robberies are not victimless crimesand this incident has left <strong>the</strong> staff membersinvolved very distressed.“Detectives are working hard to tracethose responsible but would ask anyonewho recognises <strong>the</strong> pair in <strong>the</strong> CCTV to get incontact, as <strong>the</strong>y may have information thatcould assist with our enquiries.”Anyone with any information about thisincident, or anyone who recognises <strong>the</strong> pairpictured on <strong>the</strong> CCTV stills is asked tocontact Sefton CID on 0151 777 3823 orCrimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.The current centre manager Cllr Anne Thompson with Greta Morphet CEO of Light for Life.£40,000 boost forcommunity centreReport by Tom MartinA CASH–STRAPPED community centre in<strong>Bootle</strong> that provides advice and support forlocal residents has been offered a lifeline with a£40,000 grant.The main reason for <strong>the</strong> council approvedfund is so Bedford Road Community Centrecan team–up with Southport–based charityLight for Life.It will now pave <strong>the</strong> way for <strong>the</strong> charity toenter <strong>the</strong> first stages of taking over <strong>the</strong> runningof <strong>the</strong> <strong>Bootle</strong> centre.And it will come as a huge relief to <strong>the</strong> centreas <strong>the</strong> takeover is expected to ease financialpressure.The two organisations can now work toge<strong>the</strong>rand offer a whole host of new services for thosein need of support.A main focus will be to reduce anti–socialbehaviour in <strong>the</strong> local area and <strong>the</strong>re are eventalks of creating a new foodbank.The centre will also continue to provideadvice on welfare issues such as debt, housingand tenancies.Centre manager at Bedford Road CommunityCentre, Anne Thompson, said: “We want tomirror <strong>the</strong> success of Light for Life because <strong>the</strong>services that <strong>the</strong>y provide are priceless.“From our point of view, nothing will changeand we will operate <strong>the</strong> same but we will alsogrow with <strong>the</strong> takeover.
