Rosemount ® <strong>CTS</strong> - System Description February 2013Rosemount ® <strong>CTS</strong>Rosemount ® <strong>CTS</strong> is a Custody TransferMeasurement System (CTMS) for LNGCarriers. It is primarily designed as a tankgauging system, providing alarm handlingand communicating information to a cargocontrol system for marine use.System ConfigurationStandard FeaturesRosemount <strong>CTS</strong> for LNG carriers is a complete system for level,pressure and temperature gauging.The system includes the following features:• Radar ullage measurement• Temperature measurement• Vapor pressure measurementThe Rosemount ® <strong>CTS</strong> provides accurate calculation ofthe transferred volume according to custody transferstandard methods. Built on proven technology,verified methods and long experience within the areaof tank gauging, Rosemount ® <strong>CTS</strong> is composed ofseveral subsystems offering a wide range of functionsand solutions.The foundation of the system is built on theintrinsically safe and intelligent Tank Gauge Unit(TGU 53), the Supply and Communication Unit (SCU)that acts as the connection hub and the WorkstationUnit (WSU) as the operator and computer interface.The TGU 53 measures the distance to the cargosurface using a radar signal and sends the measureddata to the SCU that communicates the processeddata with the WSU.Rosemount ® <strong>CTS</strong> has a high degree of safety built intothe system and meets the requirements of all themajor international marine classification societies.The system also meets all relevant requirementsfrom the IGC code and international standards forLNG Custody Transfer.www.<strong>Emerson</strong><strong>Process</strong>.comRosemount ®<strong>CTS</strong> is developed as a combined primaryand secondary level gauging system and a fail-safesolution for the marine environment. The built-inindependency and redundancy supports uninterrupteddata acquisition regardless of sensor failure.A typical configuration is built on two independent radarchannels, primary and secondary, and can be combinedwith several redundancy functions, such as two setsof temperature sensors, two vapor pressure sensors,all included in the one and same TGU. Besides that aworkstation redundancy is added to the system providinga fail-safe solution. The intelligent and intrinsically safe TGUhandles the signals from the radar sensor and the signalsfrom vapor pressure sensors and temperature sensors.
