mONDAY, mARCH 26, 2012 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. ORGANIZATIONAL MEMBER BUSINESS SESSION location: East hall Demonstrating the Value Geo-Professionals Provide to Projects Join us for the first ever Geo-Congress business session organized by the Geo-Institute’s Organizational Member Council (representing G-I Organizational Members) working jointly with the External Relations Committee of ASFE. The session will serve as the inauguration of a joint G-I/ASFE partnership focused on elevating the perceived value of geo-professionals to the marketplace. Presentations will focus on how geo-professionals can demonstrate and communicate the value of their technical offerings to the public. Come prepared with questions for the panelists. Morrison II, P.E., Corporate Geotechnical Manager, Kiewit Corporation, will present the perspective of our clients in the private sector. See a list of posters on pages 37-39. 2:30 – 6:30 p.m. GEO CHALLENGE COMPETITIONS location: West hall Geo Challenge is a set of student competitions sponsored by the Geo Institute of ASCE. The competitions are designed to challenge and encourage undergraduate and graduate civil engineering students who are interested in geotechnical engineering. There are three components of the Geo Challenge: ■■■ Geo Wall: Student teams from across the United States showcase their design, construction, communication and teamwork skills during the annual Geo Wall competition. The objective is to design and build a model mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining wall using paper reinforcement taped to a poster board wall facing. The design objective is to use the least amount of reinforcement needed to support the retained soil plus both vertical and horizontal surcharge loads. The winning team takes home the prestigious Atterberg trophy. ■■■ Geo Prediction: Predict the behavior of a real world geotechnical system.
