Join us for the first ever Geo-Congress business session organized by<br />

the Geo-Institute’s Organizational Member Council (representing G-I<br />

Organizational Members) working jointly with the External Relations<br />

Committee <strong>of</strong> ASFE. The session will serve as the inauguration <strong>of</strong> a<br />

joint G-I/ASFE partnership focused on elevating the perceived value <strong>of</strong><br />

geo-pr<strong>of</strong>essionals to the marketplace. Presentations will focus on how<br />

geo-pr<strong>of</strong>essionals can demonstrate and communicate the value <strong>of</strong> their<br />

technical <strong>of</strong>ferings to the public.<br />

Come prepared with questions for the panelists.<br />

Moderator: James William Martin, P.E., M.ASCE, Vice-President,<br />

AMEC<br />

Panelists: James A. Morrison II, P.E., Corporate Geotechnical Manager,<br />

Kiewit Corporation, will present the perspective <strong>of</strong> our clients in the private<br />

sector. He will explain the customer’s needs and what geo-practitioners<br />

could do to recognize and maximize the value they provide.<br />

Rudolph Bonparte, D.GE, M.ASCE, GeoSyntac Consultants, Inc. will<br />

provide his perspective as a leader <strong>of</strong> a successful geo-services firm<br />

and will challenge geo-pr<strong>of</strong>essionals to provide services that help their<br />

clients, their employees, their pr<strong>of</strong>ession, their firms and the public.<br />

Lawrence H. Roth, P.E., D.GE, F.ASCE, Senior Vice President, Malcolm<br />

Pirnie ARCADIS, Inc., will inspire geo-pr<strong>of</strong>essionals to look beyond their<br />

typical place as supporting members <strong>of</strong> project teams to their potential<br />

positions as leaders in society.<br />

Role <strong>of</strong> Full-Scale Testing in Foundation Design<br />

This session honors Bengt H. Fellenius, Dr.Tech., P.Eng., for his many<br />

significant contributions to the advancement <strong>of</strong> foundation engineering<br />

research, design, construction, and testing practices. Over the course<br />

<strong>of</strong> his 50-year career as a geotechnical engineer and nearly two<br />

decades as a pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> civil engineering at the University <strong>of</strong> Ottawa,<br />

Dr. Fellenius has made outstanding contributions to the development<br />

and advancement <strong>of</strong> innovative approaches and practical methods for<br />

incorporating full-scale testing in foundation design, especially for deep<br />

foundations.<br />
