The best car in the worldwas a strangely underwhelmingone.There are certain cherriesyou’ve just got to pop. Buryingthe throttle on a REALLYpowerful car on a private track,for instance – take a bow, JaguarXKR–S – is one of them, andunleashing an Aston Martin forthe first time is another.It’s also true that, as much as Ilove getting to the nitty gritty ofwhether the latest supermini is orisn’t worth your hard earnedcash, I’m still waiting to fulfil thatschoolboy fantasy of driving aFerrari for the first time.That’s why I had a certain giddysense of expectation aboutdriving a Rolls–Royce for the firsttime.There’s a lot to be said forCrewe’s missiles. It’s true, forinstance, that almost everyRolls–Royce is best experiencedfrom the rear, but that’s a goalWant moreexperts?CHECK-OUT YOURLITTLE BLACK BOOKanyone who makes it to thechurch on time or the NorthernEnglish standup comedy circuitcan experience.For me, the real fun was to behad by heading up to the bridge,and setting a course through thecountryside in two tones of SilverShadow.Did I like it? Definitely. Would I,if I were to become Peter Kay’smore successful protégé, like tobuy one?
