MAYOR'S ANNUAL REPORT. (3REPORT OP SUPERINTENDENT OP POLICE.SAVANNAH, GA., January 1, 1901.To the Honorable Mayor and Aldermenof the City of Savannah.Gentlemen:—I have the honor to submit my annualreport for this department for the year of 1901.The attached report shows the arrests to number5,253 for the year, of which the detectives are creditedwith having made 437.The officers, privates, and detectives, have faithfullydischarged the duties assigned to them, and Ihave only words of praise for their work. The menunder me have always been ready and willing toanswer any call for extra duty.The year has been a successful one and I haveonly to call your attention to the figures submittedherewith. They show accurately the work done bythe department, and while not as many arrests arereported as for the previous year, the percentage ofcrime has been less. The figures which I respectfullysubmit tell the story of the year's work.I regret to have to mention the following deathsin the department during the year: Harry B. Fender,who was killed while in the discharge of hisduty. T. C. Farr and P. McCabe have also passedaway. These two officers had done their duty inthis department for years, and had been retired onpension from the city.
