The bill of exceptions of the Savannah, Thunderbolt& Isle of Hope Railway Co., involving theright of the city to charge a specific tax of any character,whether in the shape of a car tax or mileageor other similar tax, is now pending in the SupremeCourt of the United States. The city has, however,collected in full the car tax and that based on mileage,and will continue to do so, notwithstanding thependency of this bill of exceptions.2. The suit of this company involving the taxingof its power house has not yet been disposed of.3. This is also true of the litigation with theMessrs. Lovell and the bulk of the Jefferson streetpavement cases.4. The case of the People's Savings & Loan Company,denying the right of the city to use a lot purchasedfrom this company for any purpose other thana street and seeking to restrain the city from erectingan engiue house, was determined, so far as the SuperiorCourt is concerned, in its legal aspects, by JudgeSeabrook, and in favor of the city. While the caseis still, technically, pending, I regard it as practicallydisposed of. The city has erected and is now usingthis engine house.
