Be it ordained by the Mayor andAldermen of the city of Savannah in council as«embled,under the terms and provisions of an act ofthe Legislature of Georgia, approved October 1,1887, that the Director of Public Works for the cityof Savannah, and the Committee on Streets andLanes of the said city, be, and they are herebyauthorized and directed to pave with vitrified brickJefterson street, in the city of Savannah, from thenorth side of Henry to the north side of Forty-secondstreet; the said pavement of vitrified brickshall be thirtv (30) feet in width. The said Directorand Committee are directed to lay the curbs anddo all the work iii the way of grading, placing ofcatch basins, drain's, crossings, and all other things

Be it further ordained, That after thetotal cost of the work shall have been ascertained,one-third of such total cost shall he paid out of thecity treasury and the other two-thirds from the personsowning at the date of the adoption of this ordinancethe real estate abutting on said portion ofJefferson street to be improved under this ordinance,according to frontage, and the pro rata amount ofthe cost of such work is hereby assessed against thesaid abutting real estate and its owners, as aforesaid,according to frontage. The frontage of intersectingstreets and lanes is assessed as real estate abuttingupon said portion of Jefferson street to be improved,and the Mayor and Aldermen of the city of Savannahshall be, for all the intents and purposes of thisordinance, the owner of the real estate so abutting,and shall pay from the city treasury its just pro rataas such owner of the cost of said work, according tofrontage, in addition to its one-third of the entirecost as hereinbefore provided.Sec. 3. Be it further ordained, That after theimprovement hereinbefore provided for has beencompleted, the Director of Public Works for thecitv of Savannah and said Committee on Streets andV .Lanes shall prepare and submit to the Council ofthe city of Savannah a statement showing the costof the improvement herein provided for, and also anassessment roll showing as to two-thirds of the costto be apportioned, how it is apportioned among theseveral abutting parcels, including the street andlane intersections, and giving the sum chargeable to
