334 MAYOR'S ANNUAL REPORT.south side of River street a roadway of granite blocksforty (40) feet in width between the curbing, andthey are authorized and directed to lay the necessarycurbing and to do all the work in the way of grading,the placing of catch basins, drains, crossings, andall other things incident to the construction and completionof the said roadway, on the said portion ofWater street.Sec. 2. Be it further ordained, That a railroadcompany having tracks running through the saidportion of Water street to be improved under thisordinance is hereby required to pave the width of itstracks and two (2) feet on each side of every line oftracks of the said railroad company with graniteblocks as the said work progresses, and, in the eventit is not done by said company, the said Director ofPublic Works and the said Committee shall see toits being done at the expense of the said railroadcompany.Sec. 3. Be it further ordained, That after the totalcost of the said work, exclusive of that done by orfor a railroad company, shall have been ascertainedone-third of such total cost shall be paid out of thecity treasury and the other two-thirds from the personsowning at the date of the adoption of this ordinancethe real estate abutting on said Waters streetto be improved under this ordinance, according tofrontage, and the pro rata amount of the cost of suchwork is hereby assessed against the said abuttingreal estate and its owners, as aforesaid, according tothe frontage.
